Unexpected DAy at the FArmer’s market…

On a routine day, I found myself navigating the busy stalls of the local farmer's market, on a mission to find the perfect potatoes for my version of vegan potato-au-gratin. Little did I know that this ordinary errand would lead to an unexpected encounter that would leave me with a story to tell.

The young and seemingly charming farmer behind the potato stand took the time to educate me on different types of potatoes Germany had to offer. Grateful for the impromptu lesson, I moved on with my day, absorbing the vibrant sights of the market.

Lost in thought while admiring a display of flowers, I was interrupted by an unexpected voice. To my surprise, it was the potato seller. In a half-breathless tone, he posed a seemingly random question, "Are you married?" Taken aback, I hesitated before responding with a cautious "yes." Curious, I questioned his inquiry, to which he simply chuckled, patted my shoulder, and wished me a good life.

Afterward, a blend of emotions took root. A subtle sadness crept in as I recognized how embracing motherhood had momentarily eclipsed the fact that, above all, I was still just a girl— an aspect of myself I had overlooked. However, a distinct joy accompanied this rediscovery. The encounter unfolded like an unforeseen, petite adventure that I eagerly anticipated sharing with my husband. The notion of being indirectly and nearly asked out at 'our' weekly farmer's market struck me as both whimsical and heartwarming, reviving the sense of girlhood that I had nearly let slip away.

In its simplicity, the incident brought a twinge of nostalgia and a renewed sense of self. I secretly hoped to tell this story to my little son one day, offering a glimpse into the fact that his mom was once a girl with unexpected adventures, even in the most ordinary places.
